Cupping is an ancient Chinese method of clearing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created when cups are placed on the skin, either by means of heat or suction. This vacuum draws up the underlying tissues, and When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis forms and localized healing occurs.
Cupping therapy has been further developed as a means to open the 'Meridians' of the body. Meridians are the conduits through which energy flows to every part of the body, and through every organ and tissue. There are five meridians on the back that, when opened, allow invigorating energy to travel the body's entire length. It has been found that cupping is one of the best ways to open those meridians and encourage the flow of qi within the channels.
Cupping has also been found to be a very effective form of myofascial release. The cups can affect the body up to four inches into the tissues, allowing tissues to release toxins, activating the lymphatic system, removing stagnated blood, and encouraging the flow of new blood in order to release muscle tension. Cupping is useful, safe, and can be added to any massage treatment to enhance its results.
